David Kohn Architects was founded in London (UK) in 2005. This firm mainly focuses on buildings for the arts and for educational institutions. Their projects always pay special attention to sustainability and aim to integrate the design into the landscape. In 2009 David Kohn was named Young Architect of the year. In 2010 he received the One off House Architect of the Year Award.
So far David Kohn Architect's realisations are limited: a gallery in Fitzrovia, a temporary restaurant for the Royal Academy, a house in Norfolk and a pavilion on the roof of the Architecture Foundation in London. However, David Kohn Architects and its designs are already renowned for their impressive dedication to artistic flexibility. David Kohn currently teaches at the London Metropolitan University. Kohn has previously lectured at Cambridge University, the London School of Economics and the University of Bath. David Kohn sees education as a way of incorporating research into new designs.
As a result, research into theatres led to David Kohn Architects being nominated in the competition for the new Arcola Theatre in Dalston. The firm received the Bistrotheque commission following a collaboration with Flack and Waddington, who advised David Kohn in terms of restaurant design.
